What We Know
What It Looks Like
A Tesla Megapack 3 unit is a self-contained white cabinet, approximately 28 feet long, 6.3 feet wide, and 9.3 feet tall, which is roughly the size of a shipping container. The project will place 136 of these units in rows within the 15-acre leased BESS area.
Unlike a traditional power plant, a battery storage facility has:
- No smokestacks or cooling towers
- No steam plumes or visible emissions
- No tall structures — the tallest elements are under 15 feet
- Minimal lighting: we will direct security lighting downward so that it remains invisible from a distance
Natural Screening
The project site benefits from substantial existing vegetation:
- Mature forest and topography help conceal the facility from most vantage points
- The site sits back from Carpenter Hill Road, ensuring no direct line of sight from the public road
Landscaping Plans
Where the facility requires additional screening, we will include:
- Supplemental landscaping: native plantings along facility perimeters
- Maintaining existing treelines: we will maintain natural screening wherever possible
- Fence design: we will design perimeter fencing to blend with the natural setting
Similar Installations
Tesla Megapack facilities operate across the country, and we will provide photographs of comparable installations for reference so residents can see what a completed facility looks like in a real-world setting.
What We're Still Studying
- Viewshed analysis: we are identifying specific locations where neighbors might see the facility and to what degree
- Photo simulations: we are creating visual renderings from key viewpoints, such as the nearest residences, public roads, and town landmarks
- Supplemental screening design: we are determining where additional landscaping will work most effectively
